What we do is attempt to have fun. This is a TALL social
club, so every type of activity that is of interest to members
in a fun/social context is a possibility. Many simply are interested
in TALL friends to do things with in a group, while some want
to meet a significant TALL other - it's all up to you. Often
members like to wine and dine, some like to ride bicycles, some
like Happy Hours, some prefer small parties, others enjoy hiking
in the forest, or maybe a dance on Saturday night. We will never
twist your arm to do anything you don't want to do, but we hope
that you will frequently participate as you develop your new
circle of TALL friends. There are well over 100 members, with
a good mix of men and women, both Anglophone and Francophone,
and they are of all ages.
There is a dinner each month and it
is popular. Other activities change constantly. Some are as simple
as going to a movie, but there are occasionally weekend
activities covering two or three days, summer and winter. Then
there is our spectacular Rendez-Vous Montreal weekend (sort of
a convention) that occurs once each two years. TALL people from
all over the world are invited and hundreds attend - Fantastic!
We are frequently invited to activities offered by other TALL
clubs. All of these activities are offered by and for members,
so that brings us to:
How it works is simple. Members suggest activities and we
do them. Activities are listed in our monthly newsletter and
on our website, making it easy to check details of all events,
and last minute news is distributed via e-mail to those who use
it - but you can always call too. All members are, ". .
. requested to assist in the planning or execution of
two club functions each year." Notice we don't rigidly demand
this, but any enthusiastic member in good standing will naturally
want to offer something. Typically it can be very easy. For example,
you enjoyed a good restaurant recently. Great! Contact the Activities
Coordinator and perhaps it can be the site of an upcoming "Members'
Night" dinner. Remember, all events are offered by and for
our members, but who does what? That brings us to:
Who does what. There is an Executive Committee but, of course,
they are just regular members, like you, who offer their help.
They become good friends and get to suggest how things work,
but it is obvious that participation of all members is welcome
and essential if the club is to remain vibrant. The newsletter
lists the offices and officers, but demands in people's lives
change, so we always have an interest in the next Editor, or
VP, or Secretary, or PR Person, etc. You get the idea; the Executive
changes periodically. If nobody volunteers to do it, "it"
won't happen. Don't want a "Title" but want to help?
Terrific! Just let us know.
The three points above present a simple overview, but there is
more to the club. Like anything else in life, you will get out
of this club a measure of pleasure equal to the contribution
you make to it. Luckily this is not a difficult task, but an
enjoyable one. We're the same as everyone else: The most active
members have the most fun.
